About the role

Flipkart is looking for a hands-on Network Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure / Network Operations team on a contract basis in Bangalore. In this role, you will be the backbone of the connectivity that keeps a high-volume, always-on business running — designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the data networks that support our teams, platforms, and partners across routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and monitoring. Networks are the circulatory system of an e-commerce business: every page load, order event, payment, and internal workflow depends on a fast, resilient, and secure path between systems. You will own that path end to end, working with Cisco-based infrastructure and core protocols such as BGP, OSPF, VLANs, TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP, while using tools like Wireshark and modern monitoring platforms to detect issues before they reach our customers. This is a high-visibility contract opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems under real-world constraints, documenting as they go, and collaborating closely with infrastructure, security, and application teams. If you thrive in fast-moving operations environments, take pride in uptime and clean network design, and want to work at the scale of one of India's most recognised digital platforms, this role is built for you. About the Company: Flipkart is one of India's leading digital commerce platforms, connecting millions of customers with products and services through technology built to operate at national scale. Its engineering and infrastructure teams solve high-volume, high-availability problems every day, powering supply chain, payments, and marketplace operations across the country. Joining Flipkart means working alongside talented people on systems that millions of users depend on daily. Responsibilities: • Design, configure, and deploy LAN, WAN, and data-centre network solutions using Cisco routing and switching platforms, ensuring scalable, resilient topology and clean configuration standards. • Own day-to-day network operations: monitor health and performance, proactively identify capacity or failure risks, and drive incidents to resolution within defined SLAs. • Troubleshoot complex connectivity issues across routing (BGP, OSPF), switching (VLANs, STP, trunking), and core services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) using structured methodologies and packet-level analysis with Wireshark. • Implement, maintain, and audit firewall policies and site-to-site/remote-access VPNs in line with security standards, coordinating with the security team on rule reviews and change approvals. • Manage network change requests end to end — impact assessment, peer review, scheduling, execution, and post-change validation — while minimising disruption to production traffic. • Maintain accurate network documentation, including topology diagrams, IP address management records, configuration baselines, runbooks, and standard operating procedures. • Support Linux-based network services and tooling, and integrate network devices with monitoring, alerting, and logging platforms to improve observability and mean time to detection. • Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and vendor/ISP teams on capacity planning, circuit provisioning, escalations, and continuous improvement of network reliability and performance. Qualifications: • 2–5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering or network operations, ideally supporting production or enterprise-scale environments. • Strong Cisco expertise across routing and switching platforms (IOS/IOS-XE/NX-OS, Cisco switches and routers), including configuration and troubleshooting at the CLI. • Proven routing knowledge and practical experience with BGP and OSPF, including route selection, adjacency troubleshooting, and peering configuration. • Solid switching fundamentals: VLANs, trunking, inter-VLAN routing, spanning tree, link aggregation, and port security. • Working command of core network protocols and services: TCP/IP, subnetting, DNS, and DHCP. • Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting firewalls (rule design, NAT, policy hygiene) and VPN technologies (IPsec site-to-site and remote access). • Proficiency with network monitoring and packet-analysis tools, including Wireshark, plus the ability to interpret logs, flows, and telemetry to isolate root cause. • Comfortable operating in Linux environments for network services, scripting, and diagnostics. • Strong analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving ability, with a calm, methodical approach to incidents and outages. • Clear written and verbal communication skills, and a proven ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams. • Discipline in documentation — you leave every change and topology accurately recorded for the next engineer. • Ability to support on-call or out-of-hours escalation as required by the operations rota. Benefits: • Competitive contract compensation with clearly defined engagement terms (full details discussed during the interview process). • High-exposure role at the heart of the infrastructure supporting one of India's largest digital platforms. • Access to enterprise-grade Cisco, security, and monitoring tooling — hands-on experience you can't replicate at smaller scale. • Structured onboarding and knowledge transfer, plus mentorship from senior network and infrastructure engineers. • Certification support and a genuine learning culture, with exposure to cloud networking, automation, and modern observability practices. • Collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment with real ownership of outcomes. • Hybrid working model with a Bangalore-based office footprint. • Clear path to extension or conversion for high performers, with strong networking within the broader technology organisation.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since 1966, when designers at Letraset and James Mosley, the librarian at St Bride Printing Library in London, took a 1914 Cicero translation and scrambled it to make dummy text for Letraset's Body Type sheets. It has survived not only many decades, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised thanks to these sheets and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker and Microsoft Word including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
